Recto Title (1961)
Recto Title (1938)
Sketch of tall female figure with right hand held up and, on a much smaller scale, of a Hercules and Antaeus. To left a nude walking to left and carrying a dish at arm's length. To right a nude female turning on couch with left hand extended over sleeping figure represents, no doubt, Psyche looking at Cupid while he is asleep. Vertical lines cross the sheet in a curious way and two horizontal ones and some diagonal ones cross the body of the principal figure in what we might take for the outline of a sheet, making the intention of the figure fascinatingly enigmatic.

Recto Notes
The Psyche and Cupid was used in the pavement of the Laurenziana, Florence. Very poor but genuine work of Michelangelo's following. The tall figure resembles Montelupo's at Oxford (my 1713 verso). The group is taken from another sheet in the same collection (my 1712 verso), which I attribute now to "Andrea di Michelangelo."
